Wind farms are a relatively recent addition to the Palouse landscape. The typical wind turbine has a mast that is 220 feet tall caped by a generator and three blades that are 130 feet long. It is hard to appreciate how big they are (as tall as a 35 story building) until you are standing right underneath one and can hear the gentle woosh - woosh - woosh of the giant blades as they pass overhead. There are several wind farms in the Palouse that together generate hundreds of megawatts of electricity. You can find them in the wheat fields and canola fields.
